STEPHEN ADLY GUIRGIS MASTER CLASS WITH ESTEBAN ANDRES CRUZ
This exciting scene study class will focus on the Tony Award-nominated and Pulitzer Prize Winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis (Between Riverside & Crazy, Jesus Hopped the A Train, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, Motherfucker with the Hat and many more).
This Advanced scene study is taught by ASC's own resident Guirgis expert, Actor/Director/Choreographer Esteban Andres Cruz (Joseph Jefferson Award Winner: Lead Actor in Jesus Hopped the A Train). Esteban is a long-time collaborator and friend with Stephen, and Esteban had their off-Broadway debut in the world premiere of Guirgis's most recent play Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven. Originating the role of Venus Ramirez, Esteban was nominated for the coveted New York Drama Desk Award.
Since 2018, Esteban has been workshopping several plays with Mr. Guirgis, including Showki's Deluxe Auto Emporium and Baked Goods, Don Q Pa Fuera, and California Sober-which are all fairly new. Dog Day Afternoon, a commissioned work by Warner Bros and based on the Al Pacino film of the same name-Esteban has been reading the role of the wife for seven years now. Through workshops and readings, Esteban has gotten the chance to act with John C Riley, David Zayas, John Ortiz, Jon Bernthal, Ben Stiller, Bobby Canavale, Marissa Tomei, Jessica Hecht, Ebon Moss Bacharach, Kara Young, Daphnie Ruben-Vega, Chris Bauer, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Stephen McKinley Henderson, the late great Treat Williams and many more amazing actors. Esteban not only has acted in so many Guirgis productions and workshops, they have also been teaching Guirgis's work for the past 10 years, in NY, LA, San Diego and right here at Acting Studio Chicago. This is the first ASC offering of a Master Class dedicated exclusively to Stephen's work.
